7)     Here is the top 3 ways to avoid identity theft from the article “Avoiding Identity Theft” on www.accountingweb.com:

1.Destroy papers you don't need: credit-card and ATM receipts, checks or deposit slips, health insurance benefit statements, paycheck stubs, tax records and preapproved credit-card offers. Buy a shredder and use it.

2.Do not carry your Social Security number with you, never give it out unless absolutely necessary and do not have it printed on your checks.

3.Check your credit report each year. Investigate any accounts you did not apply for directly. To check your credit, contact one of the three major agencies: TransUnion 800-888-4213 (www.tuc.com), Experian 888-EXPERIAN (www.experian.com), or Equifax 800-685-1111 (www.equifax.com). There is a fee for this service.

8)  I compared Amazon to Barnes & Noble.  Both websites have easily visible browsers and search engines.  Special features include sections on Bestsellers, Calendars, Rare books, and Used Books for the Amazon website, and “hot items” in Kids Books, Books, DVD + Video and eBooks.  With regards to their looks, both websites are fairly bland, lacking exquisite colors or frills.  Neither website offers much interactive type sections on its main pages.  After searching for several items, I found both websites to have sufficient searching capabilities.  Amazon had a great number of search results, but many were not relevant to the topic.  On the other hand, Barnes & Noble had few search results, but each result pertained to the topic at hand.  This is probably due to the fact that each website differs in what items it offers.  Amazon offers books as well as tools, music, video, magazines, travel, cars, etc. while Barnes & Noble focuses specifically on different types of books.  If you are looking for a variety of goods, I recommend Amazon.  If you are searching specifically for books, I recommend Barnes & Noble.

11) a)  “Four Emerging Technology Areas for E-Business”

-We examine four areas of rapid technology development that exploit the capabilities of interactive e-channels: Web-based self-service, data mining, personalization and e-cash.

"Data Mining. Through 2004, e-businesses will experience yet another explosion in the quantity of data they manipulate. Instead of just storing the result of a transaction (e.g., a purchase decision), enterprises will have access to much of the decision-making process leading up to that result (e.g., the navigation path, click-through behavior and alternatives explored) recorded from the online dialogue. This will lead to challenges in data storage and management as well as unprecedented opportunities in customer relationship management to better understand the customers' buying patterns by analyzing these new data sources (e.g., using tools from eHNC or Blue Martini). Applications include new customer acquisition, cross-selling, profitability analysis, churn management and fraud detection."

Check out his column at http://ptech.wsj.com/

The Philips eXpanium and the Pine D'music SM-200C were the two MP3 players featured in this article.  The eXpanium makes navigating difficult because it doesn't show song information such as genre.  The eXpanium includes insufficient features such as its anti-shock feature which does always prevent skips when music is played.  In addition to this, physical components such as the fact that it is a very thin device and its lack of an equalizer to guarantee proper listening capabilities take away from the device.  The Pine D'music has similar problems with its song skips as well as a short pre-song static period which serves as an inconvenience.
